On September 11, 2017, a check presentation has been made to donate proceeds from Brookfield Renewable’s charity golf tournament.
“We are thrilled that Brookfield Renewable made the decision to select CMHA Sault Ste. Marie/Algoma among this year’s recipient organizations of their fundraising golf tournament. These funds will certainly help with providing services and education to people living in the Algoma region.” said Annette Katajamaki, Executive Director.
Brookfield Renewable is a global renewable power producer that values active local involvement in the communities in which it operates. In the Algoma District, it owns and operates 16 hydropower generating stations and 1 wind farm and supports dozens of charitable organizations every year.
Once a year, Brookfield Renewable organizes a special event to increase charitable support. “We bring together our business partners, our service providers, our employees and our leadership team in a fundraising golf tournament to support charitable organizations across North America, and improve the lives of people in and around the communities in which we operate,” said Jim Deluzio, Vice President Operations at Brookfield Renewable. “By choosing to donate to the Canadian Mental Health Association – (Sault Ste. Marie District) this year, we acknowledge the significant contribution to each of the many lives it touches and we are proud to contribute to the quality of life as a whole, within the community.”
Half of the total donation will be spent in Wawa to provide free Mental Health First Aid and safeTALK training to community members and to assist the CMHA Peer Support Program, Iris Place move into a new location. The other portion will be used to help continue to provide the Single Session Walk In Service, that CMHA runs in partnership with Algoma Family Services, Sault Area Hospital, Algoma Public Health and The John Howard Society.
