This service provides client-centered counselling to address the specific issues and concerns of the client. Counsellors will assist with conducting assessments of needs and working with clients to develop solutions to their concerns. Counselling services can be provided to adults ages 16 and over on an individual, couple, family or group basis. Counselling services may focus on strategies to cope with symptoms of mental illness, concurrent disorders (mental health disorder and substance abuse), issues such as relationships, managing stress, trauma, workplace stress, parenting challenges, loss/grief, communication skills, managing emotions (anger, sadness, etc.), self-esteem, and the development of coping strategies. Various treatment modalities are used including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), recovery focused approaches, and strength based approaches. There is no fee for this service.
Family Counselling
Family Counselling is offered to provide the necessary strategies, supports and referrals to family members as necessary. The goal of Family Counselling is to help family members cope with all types of mental illness; to share frustrations, concerns and heartaches and to develop skills to cope with the challenges. We also provide strategies for communication and coping with stress. We can provide appropriate referrals to community partners as needed and have many resources, including educational and general.
Counselling staff are registered members of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
