Shot in the Dark partners with Canadian Mental Health Association and the United Way of Sault Ste. Marie.
The show has been cast, rehearsals have started, and Shot in the Dark Productions is excited to announce that they will be partnering with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Sault Ste. Marie Branch to present a Gala performance of their fall production: Tommy. Directed by Sue Barber and Anthony Aceti, Tommy is the story of a young boy who, after witnessing a traumatic event, goes deaf, dumb and blind. Unable to speak, hear or see, he suffers abuse from sadistic relatives and neighbours until he discovers his talents in front of a pinball machine.
The story of Tommy deals with mental health issues on many levels, and the entire team at Shot in the Dark is thrilled to be supporting CMHA, an agency of the United Way of Sault Ste. Marie, through both the telling of the story, and through the opening night Charity Gala. “Mental health issues and mental illness have been receiving wide spread attention these days,” said Annette Katajamaki – Executive Director of CMHA Sault Ste. Marie Branch. “No one in our community can honestly say that they haven’t themselves experienced a mental health issue, either personally, with a family member, a friend or a co-worker. Only through education and awareness can we ever hope to reduce the stigma of mental health, mental illness and access to treatment that can be life saving for so many people.”
The special CMHA Gala performance will be held on Wednesday, November 4 at the Mill Machine Shop.
Tickets are $60 each, and will include cocktails, food, a silent auction, and special presentations by CMHA.
All funds raised for CMHA, a United Way Agency, will stay in our community, supporting local initiatives.
Gala tickets are available exclusively through our Gala Producer, Marion Widgett (contact: marionwidgett@gmail.com).
General admission tickets for Tommy (for performances on November 5, 7, 8) are available at the Community Theatre Box Office in the Station Mall.
Adults are $25 and Seniors/Students/Groups of 10 or more are $20, but only for a short time! After September 1, prices will go up to $35/30, so get yours today.
Tommy is filled with the classic rock music of The Who, including one of their most famous hits, Pinball Wizard. All music will be played by local rock band, That’s Chester (Greg Simpson, Gabe Tessaro, Eugene Orlando, Aubrey Falls and Ric Datson).
