Background
• Since its 2010 launch, Bell Let’s Talk has significantly advanced Canada’s mental health conversation. This initiative has reduced stigma, spurred open dialogue, and fostered
positive changes in attitudes and behaviors surrounding mental wellness and illness.
• On October 10th, Bell announced a $10 million contribution to mental health initiatives in 2025, increasing its total Bell Let’s Talk investment to $184 million since 2010
Bell Let’s Talk Day 2025
• Now in its 15th year, Bell Let’s Talk Day has become Canada’s annual mental health day.
• Bell Let’s Talk is kicking off a year of action and change, celebrating the progress that has been made in moving mental health forward – but there’s more to be done to address Canada’s mental health crisis to ensure all Canadians who are struggling can get the help they need.
• Too many Canadians continue to struggle with their mental health, and this year Bell Let’s Talk Day is putting a spotlight on the growing youth mental health crisis in Canada. The voices of
youth with lived and living experience of mental health issues tell the story of struggle and loneliness but also of hope and optimism for the future.
• Bell Let’s Talk is launching its first ever text-to-donate campaign to support six youth mental health organizations that are helping to address the crisis every day – Kids Help Phone, Jack.org,
Youth in Mind Foundation, Strongest Families Institute, Integrated Youth Services, and National Association of Friendship Centres. Bell will match Bell Let’s Talk Day donations up to $1 million.
Text-to-donate
• Canadians can contribute to the campaign by texting the keyword “YOUTH” to short code 45678 on their mobile device. From there, they will receive a message that confirms they want to donate $5. When the user replies YES, the donation will go through.
• People across Canada can donate on January 22 over the 24-hour period of their respective time zones.
• The Bell Let’s Talk Day text-to-donate campaign is made possible with the support of the Mobile Giving Foundation Canada (MGFC), a registered charity that enables text message donations to
be charged to donors’ monthly mobile phone bills as tax-exempt charitable gifts where 100% of donations are remitted to the intended charities. MGFC is operated by the Canadian
Telecommunications Association.
Mental Health Facts
• Mental Health Research Canada’s report on the state of youth mental health called A Generation at Risk: The State of Youth Mental Health in Canada, underscores the urgent need for action to
improve community mental health supports for youth. The stats are alarming:
o 1 in 2 young people in Canada aren’t getting the help they need.
o 1 in 4 young people in Canada have considered suicide.
o 1.25 million young people need help in Canada.
• The report makes a strong case that the youth mental health system needs to be improved in three key areas: prevention and dedication (upstream investment), service quality (evaluation),
and access (system navigation).
